Research Institute of Medical Mass Spectrometry

This research institute was established in 1972. This was the first introduction of gas chromatography/mass spectrometry into medical science in Japan. Main research topics have focused on drug metabolism, neuropharmacology, lipid and prostaglandin metabolism, bile acid metabolism, and diagnosis of inherited metabolic disorders. This Institute has played a special leading role in diagnosing inherited organic acidemia. Recent ongoing international collaborative research projects include newborn and prenatal screening/diagnosis of inherited metabolic diseases, metabolism of lipid-related substances and drug metabolism.
